UCEP stands for Educational Program for Disadvantaged Children; However, we prefer to use the acronym UCEP because UCEP extends its support to young people in disadvantaged communities in response to changing needs and contexts. We bring drop-out children back to education, provide vocational skills training, and provide employment opportunities for young graduates. UCEP has 44 schools offering free 5th to 8th grade education in 3.5 years.
Students can appear for PECE (Elementary Education Completion Test) and JSCE (Junior School Completion Test). The program also includes a 6-month remedial course aimed at improving reading and writing (Bengali. numerical skills for children who dropped out in primary grade. 5 UCEP schools have the option of studying in 9th to 10th grade. Those who are interested can join the 3 – 6 month training course in various vocational trades (readymade garments, textiles, electrical and electronics, construction) for free. Furniture, catering, manufacturing and other sectors.
Following the training course, UCEP provides entrepreneurial development training as well as employment support. Young people from non-UCEP schools can also join the three-shift course, including the evening course. Underprivileged Children’s Educational Programmes Job Circular 2023
UCEP is administered by UIST (UCEP Institute of Science and Technology) which offers 4 year Diploma in Engineering courses. It is the goal of a fee-based program to save revenue and provide cross-subsidy skills training to the disadvantaged. We are also looking for supporters to provide scholarships to those who cannot afford to study at UIST. It has 1,277 staff (32% female) mostly teachers / trainers.
There are 54 schools out of which 10 are technical schools and the remaining 44 are general. Most of these schools are on the institution’s own land.
