The company was founded in 1982 with the aim of implementing a pilot project to introduce CNG (compressed natural gas) as an environmentally friendly and economically economical fuel for vehicles. The pilot project, which was conducted from 1982 to 1985, started operations in January 1986 as a Compressed Natural Gas Company Limited. The company later given the additional responsibility of extracting, refining and bottling liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from various wet gas fields of the country. From February 1991, the company renamed as Transformed Natural Gas Company Limited.
At present RPGCL operates four CNG refueling stations in Dhaka metropolis and converted the engines of about 1200 vehicles to CNG. en.bdjobsedu.com. The Compressed Natural Gas Company Limited formed on January 1, 1986 with the aim of saving foreign exchange through multidimensional use of natural gas, use of environmentally friendly alternative fuels in vehicles, prevention of air pollution and reduction of dependence on fuel imports.
The name of the company later changed to ‘Transformed Natural Gas Company Limited (RPGCL)’ on 9 February 1991, as a result of the company’s expansion of scope. Encouraging the people to use CNG (compressed natural gas) in vehicles for environmental development, construction of CNG fuel dependent transport infrastructure in Bangladesh, supervision, its commercial operation, responsibility for expansion and other raw materials obtained in Sylhet gas fields.
