Industry and Commerce later emerged as two separate ministries. After that the Ministry of Jute and Textiles, Board of Investment, Privatization Commission also separated from the Ministry of Industries. At present there are 4 agencies, 6 departments and one board working under the Ministry of Industries. The Indian Standards Institute established in 1947 in the subcontinent. In 1958, more than a decade after the end of colonial rule in 1947, the Pakistan Standards Institute (PSI) was established in what was then Pakistan. Earlier, the Central Testing Laboratory (CTL) established in Dhaka in 1956 under the Colombo Plan.

PSI’s office established in Dhaka in 1983. After independence in Bangladesh, CTL and BDSI, these two organizations functioning as separate entities in their respective responsibilities. follow for new jobs. Now According to the decision of the then cabinet on 16 May 1973, the Central Testing Laboratory (CTL), a government institution under the Science & Technology Division, and the parastatal Bangladesh Standards Institution (BDSI) merged.

So The Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) formed through the Ordinance, 1975. Then in 1995, the Directorate of Marketing and Classification of Agricultural Products. But under the Ministry of Commerce of the Government of Bangladesh merged with BSTI. Then The ordinance turned into ‘Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institutions Act-2018’. At last present, BSTI is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Industries.
