So National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam University (Bengali: John Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam University) a government funded public university in Bangladesh. Now It also known as JKKNIU. It is located 1.5 km from Trishal upazila, about 22 km from Mymensingh district and 100 km from Dhaka.

Begum Khaleda Zia inaugurated the university on May 25, 2007 at a function organized on the occasion of the birth anniversary of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.

So The university initially conceived as the first culture-based university in Bangladesh. But the University Act 200 university developed it as a general university with a special focus on liberal arts education and activities. Then Mohammad Shamsur Rahman the first Vice Chancellor of KKNIU. The first batch had 185 students. The academic program of the University came into effect on 3 June 2007 through three departments under the Faculty of Fine Arts (Bangla Language and Literature, English Language and Literature, and Music) and a single department under the Faculty of Science and Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering. Actually The following year two more departments were established under two new faculties: the Department of Accounting and Information Systems under the Faculty of Business Administration.
