It has a country office in Dhaka and sub-offices in Sylhet, Chittagong, Teknaf and Cox’s Bazar. The IOM supported the Government of Bangladesh in rescuing the 19923,000 migrant workers trapped in the Persian Gulf crisis, and the cooperation between the Government of Bangladesh and the IOM lasted until 1999.
To ensure safe, orderly and regular migration, IOM is providing technical assistance to the Government of Bangladesh on various issues related to migration management. Strengthening the system – Capacity building, policy formulation and support of the Secretariat to the Chairman of the Colombo Process in 2011 and implementation of programs including the 2016 Global Forum on Migration and Development. The IOM provided technical assistance to the GoB in forming the government.
