Professor Sameer Kumar Saha (MSc, PhD, FAM, FRCPath), Professor of Microbiology, has published nearly 200 scientific research papers in peer-reviewed international journals and received multiple accolades in his name. He is the head of the diagnostic department at the Bangladesh Institute of Child Health, Dhaka Children’s Hospital, assistant scientist at icddr, b, associate at the Department of International Health, Johns Hopkins University, the United States and various national and international valued member health advisory boards ignoring infectious diseases and vaccines. He is also the Executive Director of the Child Health Research Foundation (CHRF).

Actually Led by Professor Saha, the CHRF team has developed evidence and facilitated the decision-making process for the introduction of Haemophilus influenzae type B (Hib) and pneumococcal vaccines in Bangladesh. Now Bangladesh’s Extended Immunization (EPI) program, Professor Sameer and his team have played an active role in saving the lives of thousands of children. Then professor Samir has been awarded the UNESCO Carlos Finlay Prize for his research in microbiology and the American Society of Microbiology and the American Academy of Microbiology for his contributions to clinical microbiology. So bill Gates also recognized him as a “hero.” Then Based on quality microbiology services, and evidence of vaccine introduction, CHRF laboratories in four hospitals in Bangladesh have been recognized as World Health Organization sentinel sites.
So professor Sameer Saha is also very proud to be a consultant for future scientists, mentoring 49 students. From Dhaka University, 15 of whom are either pursuing or completing their doctoral thesis. But professor Saha received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Dhaka University in 1984 and his PhD in Microbiology from the Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), India. Besides he returned to Bangladesh in 19 after completing his PhD. Then his return, throughout his career, Professor Saha has been passionate about working with limited resources and gradually building capacity. Now tarting from a setting with almost no microbiological benefits, he has built five state-of-the-art laboratories.
