Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Job Circular 2022. Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (Sivasu for short) is a specialized government university in Bangladesh. It is the only veterinary university in the country. However, it considered as an agricultural university and like other agricultural universities, this university also offers degrees to the students of the faculty. Sivasu created the first animal blood bank in Bangladesh. The first abdominal hospital in Bangladesh, the first anatomy museum built by Sivasu. Later two more veterinary colleges established at Dinajpur and Barisal. The initial name of Chittagong Veterinary College was Chittagong Government Veterinary College, abbreviated as Chasvek. The institute started its journey in January 1996 as a college under the University of Chittagong with 50 students. The University of Chittagong transformed the college into a separate faculty with the permission of the University Grants Commission for the larger curriculum of the college. At that time there was no agricultural university or veterinary university in the whole of Chittagong. As a result, there was a strong demand to transform Chasvek into a separate university. The movement was led by Yusuf Chowdhury, a social worker from Chittagong and chairman of the daily Purbakon. A building in Shivasur was named Yusuf Chowdhury Bhavan for his contribution. As a result of this movement, in 2005 the Prime Minister’s Office ordered the transformation of Chasvek into a university. In view of this, the then Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia inaugurated it on February 2, 2006 as Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University. It later introduced on August 7, 2006 through an ordinance. At first the university only started its journey with the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. The University is currently conducting its academic activities with a total of three faculties including two more faculties namely Food Science and Technology and Fisheries. Professor Nitish Chandra Debnath its principal since its inception.
After becoming a university, he became its founding vice-chancellor. He was vice chancellor until 2010. Regular research projects are conducted in the university. In 2016, a team of researchers from Shivasur succeeded in determining the sex of a fancy bird with the help of DNA sexing technology. This is the first success in this technology in Bangladesh. Earlier, bird samples had to be sent abroad after spending a lot of money and time on sex determination. The Sivasu Research Boat was launched at Kaptai Lake in a project worth Tk 3.75 crore. In this research boat, 12 researchers will be able to work together. There are also good arrangements to stay here.
