Its motto is knowledge, discipline and unity. The corps was established at Dhaka University under the Indian Territorial Forces Act, 1923. In November 1928, its first adjutant, Captain E. Groom provided military training to 100 students and 18 teachers. The University Training Corps was formally established in June 1926. In 1971, the members of this corps participated in the war of liberation. The Bangladesh National Cadet Corps was formed by an official order dated 23 March 1989, merging the University Officers Training Corps, Bangladesh Cadet Corps and Junior Cadet Corps. At present its head office is located at Sector 6, Uttara, Dhaka. The National Cadet Corps consists of 6 Army Regiments, 1 Air Force and 1 Naval Regiment under one Director. The regiments are: Ramna Regiment (Greater Dhaka and Tangail District); Mainamati Regiment (Greater Comilla, Noakhali and Sylhet districts); Karnafuli Regiment (Greater Chittagong and Chittagong Hill Tracts District); Sundarbans Regiment (Greater Khulna and Barisal District); Mahasthan Regiment (Greater Rajshahi, Pabna and Bogra districts); Jangalbari Regiment (Greater Mymensingh District); Teesta Regiment (Greater Rangpur and Dinajpur Districts).

The National Cadet Corps provides military training to young people as a support force in the country’s defense system, forms a second-tier resistance force to counter external enemy attacks, and conducts their activities as a volunteer in disaster response. Its activities include: military training (strategy, mapping, organization and administration); Small arms training and firing; Blood donation; Tree planting; Donate and assist in natural disasters as a volunteer; Special training arrangements for success in various competitive examinations. Participate in illiteracy eradication activities and assist the police force during International Sports and Traffic Week. A cadet from the National Cadet Corps volunteered at the month-long Victory Day Camp and the Central Annual Training Camp and received free military training.
Regular cadets given the opportunity to participate in the Military Science Certificate Course of Dhaka University and in addition to the pass marks obtained in the Certificate Course, a maximum of 25 marks (Pass and Honors) added to the total marks. This allows the test results to progress. Cadets also given preference in civil service examinations and government jobs. There are educational tours, picnics, sports, cultural competitions and entertainment for the cadets. The Bangladesh National Cadet Corps gained special importance in both public and private sectors and plans have made to bring at least 1 college and 1 school in each upazila under this organization in future.
